THE NATION: Flood impacts remain ruinous

Honda Automobile (Thailand), while announcing that its motorcycle and power-part-manufacturing subsidiary would suspend operations only until Nov 4 Friday, said: "The company does not have a clear outlook for when vehicle production will resume, as its facilities remain flooded since October 8." The autoassembly plant in Rojana Industrial Park, Ayutthaya, was inundated on that date, but its parts suppliers were flooded four days before.

More than 400 Japanese auto manufacturers and electronics firms in six industrial parks north of Bangkok have been affected by the flood disaster.

Japanese car assemblers in Thailand meet to discuss production

Production might half due to Japanese chip import problems...  Japanese car assemblers in Thailand will meet here next week to discuss car automobile industry production which is being heavily impacted from the massive tsunami which hit Japan just over a month ago, a senior industry player said Thursday. Vallop Tiasiri, president of the Thailand Automotive Institute, said Japanese car assemblers will meet on April 22 at the industry ministry following an invitation from Permanent Secretary for Industry Vitoon Simachokdee.
