MOTOR TREND: Japan's Earthquake and Tsunami Hit Parts Supplies


The world's automakers are cautious and vague about the effects of the tragic March 11 Japanese earthquake and tsunami on vital automotive parts and components, with one surprising exception. General Motors began preparing for a potential shortage by late March. It severely limited discretionary spending and suspended "unnecessary" corporate travel at the company to "hoard" money so it could pay alternative parts sources, if necessary, by mid-May.
