Japan disaster to hinder Thailand's car production


Thailand may be expected to pick up the slack of the stricken auto industry following the March 11 earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan but car company executives from the Southeast Asian country say they were also affected by the double disaster.

According to Prachin Eamlumnow, chairman of Grand Prix International Co. Ltd. that organizes the Bangkok International Motor Show, Thailand's automotive manufacturing industry will feel the effect of the Japan disaster for about three months starting this April.

Japanese car assemblers in Thailand meet to discuss production

Production might half due to Japanese chip import problems...  Japanese car assemblers in Thailand will meet here next week to discuss car automobile industry production which is being heavily impacted from the massive tsunami which hit Japan just over a month ago, a senior industry player said Thursday. Vallop Tiasiri, president of the Thailand Automotive Institute, said Japanese car assemblers will meet on April 22 at the industry ministry following an invitation from Permanent Secretary for Industry Vitoon Simachokdee.
