Ford to produce Ranger pickup truck in Thailand from mid-year


Ford Motor Company on Wednesday announced plans to start production of its new Ranger pickup model in Thailand by mid-2011, barring major disruptions in parts supplies from disaster-hit Japan.
Ford, which has a joint venture with Mazda Motor Corp to manufacture one-ton pickup trucks in Thailand, has been monitoring the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disasters in Japan to see how they impact the flow of automotive parts from Japan-based suppliers to their factory in Thailand.

Japanese car assemblers in Thailand meet to discuss production

Production might half due to Japanese chip import problems...  Japanese car assemblers in Thailand will meet here next week to discuss car automobile industry production which is being heavily impacted from the massive tsunami which hit Japan just over a month ago, a senior industry player said Thursday. Vallop Tiasiri, president of the Thailand Automotive Institute, said Japanese car assemblers will meet on April 22 at the industry ministry following an invitation from Permanent Secretary for Industry Vitoon Simachokdee.
