PM outlines Thailand's automotive hub vision

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has declared Thailand's vision to be the automotive production hub of Asia.

He told the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, yesterday that the country has geared its policy towards becoming the region's major auto producer.

Mr Abhisit told the ``Thailand and the Global Automotive Industry'' session that the vision was buoyed by the government's competitive export-oriented industry well known for producing high-quality one-tonne pickup trucks, eco-cars and motorcycles.

Japanese car assemblers in Thailand meet to discuss production

Production might half due to Japanese chip import problems...  Japanese car assemblers in Thailand will meet here next week to discuss car automobile industry production which is being heavily impacted from the massive tsunami which hit Japan just over a month ago, a senior industry player said Thursday. Vallop Tiasiri, president of the Thailand Automotive Institute, said Japanese car assemblers will meet on April 22 at the industry ministry following an invitation from Permanent Secretary for Industry Vitoon Simachokdee.
